Your Gut Directly Shapes Your Mood and Mind
When your gut sends stress signals to the brain whether from inflammation, infection, food triggers, or digestive imbalance the brain perceives it as a threat. In response the brain send a signal to the adrenals to release cortisol the primary stress hormone. Cortisol prepares the body to respond to danger, but when it’s elevated repeatedly, it can down regulate other key neurotransmitters like:

-
Dopamine, reducing focus, motivation, and drive
-
Serotonin decreases, leading to low mood or irritability
-
GABA levels fall, making it harder to relax or sleep
-
Glutamine, which provides energy for the brain and supports neurotransmitter function, can get depleted under chronic stress, contributing to brain fog and difficulty concentrating.

In my practice we include a couple more steps to understand the complete picture of neurotransmitter production to help you feel balanced, focused and calm. We look at the nutrients (vitamins and minerals) and natural helpers (enzymes) your body relies on to produce these neurotransmitters and make sure the chemical reactions behind them are running smoothly. I will also share with you the role that genetics can play in mood and mind balance.
